Day 1 of the PMWC 2026 Grand Finals was supposed to feature six matches. It produced four.

PUBG MOBILE Esports confirmed on August 14 that players from multiple teams had reported feeling unwell during the Grand Finals at EWC 2026. Following that, the day was brought to an early close. The organizers said they were working with the Esports World Cup to investigate the source of the issue and that an updated tournament schedule would be announced once confirmed.

Two teams, S2G Esports and IDA Esports, issued separate official statements. A third situation, involving GodLike's Manya, emerged through reports from Indian creators at the event.

This is what is confirmed, what is reported, and what is still unknown.

PUBG MOBILE Esports Official Statement

The organizers were direct. Their statement read:

"Players' health and wellbeing are always our priority. We are aware that members of multiple teams reported feeling unwell. We are working with EWC to investigate and identify the source of the issue, and taking immediate and necessary actions to support the affected players. The updated schedule of the tournament will be announced when confirmed."

Several things are clear from this statement, and one thing is deliberately absent.

PUBG MOBILE Esports confirmed the scale, with multiple teams affected, not an isolated incident. They confirmed action is being taken. They confirmed the schedule is changing. What the statement does not do is name a cause. The source of the illness is under investigation. At the time of publication, no confirmed diagnosis or catering source has been officially identified by the organizers.

What PUBG MOBILE Esports officially confirmed

  • Members of multiple teams reported feeling unwell
  • Player health and wellbeing are the priority
  • PUBG MOBILE Esports is working with EWC on an investigation
  • The source of the issue has not been confirmed
  • Support is being provided to affected players
  • The tournament schedule is being revised
  • A new schedule will be announced when confirmed

S2G Esports: Lost and HamsiG Are Receiving Treatment

S2G Esports moved quickly with a team statement.

The Turkish organization confirmed that Berkay "Lost" Yılmaz and Faruk "HamsiG" Hamsici were receiving treatment due to health issues. The team said further updates on both players' conditions, and on the tournament continuation, would follow.

S2G's official statement did not use the term food poisoning. Their confirmed position is that Lost and HamsiG are undergoing treatment for health issues. Nothing beyond that has been officially stated by the organization.

Despite the circumstances surrounding their players, S2G finished the shortened Day 1 in ninth place with 23 points, including one Chicken Dinner from Match 2. That number carries more weight knowing what was happening behind it.

IDA Esports: Head Coach Mitraleius Confirmed Food Poisoning

IDA Esports issued their own separate announcement, and it was more specific.

The organization confirmed that head coach Şamil "Mitraleius" Özkan suffered food poisoning in Paris and was unable to be present for competition. IDA specifically used that term in their statement, making Mitraleius one of the few individuals in this situation whose condition has been officially named.

This is an important editorial distinction. PUBG MOBILE Esports did not confirm food poisoning as the cause of the wider illness. S2G did not use the term for their players. IDA used it specifically for their head coach.

The team itself finished Day 1 in 16th place with 2 points. How much the absence of Mitraleius contributed to that result is impossible to separate from the competitive picture.

Was It Food Poisoning? What the Evidence Says Right Now

The phrase "food poisoning" is circulating widely. The editorial picture is more layered.

IDA Esports officially confirmed food poisoning for Mitraleius specifically.

S2G officially confirmed that Lost and HamsiG are receiving treatment, without specifying the condition.

PUBG MOBILE Esports officially confirmed that multiple teams reported players feeling unwell, without identifying a cause.

Reports from the PMWC scene have described food poisoning as a possible explanation for the wider pattern of illness across teams.

The safest description at this stage is health concerns affecting multiple teams, with food poisoning officially confirmed in one specific case and suspected, but not confirmed, as a broader cause.

It would be premature to name a specific meal, venue, or catering source without an official investigation confirming it.

GodLike Esports: Manya Reportedly Feeling Unwell

The health situation also touched the Indian contingent.

GodLike Esports' Manya was reportedly feeling unwell during the Grand Finals, according to updates shared through the vlogs and social media stories of Indian esports creators ZAP and AnkitBot, who were present at the event.

This has not been confirmed in an official statement from GodLike Esports. It should be read as a reported development from on-ground updates, not as an official medical disclosure.

No major health concerns were reported for the other Indian players in the updates available at the time of writing. For Orangutan, no player health concern has been publicly reported in the information currently available.

Why Day 1 Ended After Four Matches

The original schedule called for six matches on Day 1 across a three day, 18 match Grand Finals.

Four matches were completed. Two were not.

The decision followed the growing scale of the health situation, specifically the official confirmation that members of multiple teams were affected. This was not a single player or a single organisation calling for a timeout. The scope was wide enough that continuing the day was not the right call.

PUBG MOBILE Esports has not confirmed whether the two unplayed matches will be redistributed across Days 2 and 3, absorbed into the existing schedule, or handled differently. Until the revised schedule is published, the original Day 2 and Day 3 structure should not be treated as final.

The Competitive Picture: And Why It Can Wait

eArena lead the PMWC 2026 Grand Finals with 48 points after four matches. Tianba sit second on 45. Nigma Galaxy are third on 44. Four points separate first from third.

The tournament's competitive story is genuinely tight and will pick up the moment the lobby reconvenes.

That story matters. It will be covered in full. But this day's first story, and the more pressing one, is about players affected by the health situation, organisations reaching out for medical support, and organizers making the call to stop the competition and find out what happened.

The scheduling question, the investigation, and the recovery of affected players are what PMWC 2026's Day 1 will be remembered for.

The standings will take care of themselves once everyone is healthy.
