PMWC 2026 Match 16: S2G Miss Trophy Chance as Aurora Win

S2G Esports and Aurora Gaming battle during PMWC 2026 Match 16
S2G Esports came close to ending the PMWC 2026 Grand Finals, but Aurora Gaming claimed the Match 16 WWCD. โ€” PUBG MOBILE Esports

S2G Esports did not need a big game. They needed one thing, and for a stretch of Match 16, they had every reason to believe they were about to get it.

S2G entered the match already Match Point Eligible at 132 points. No placement target. No elimination count to chase. Just one Chicken Dinner between them and the PMWC 2026 trophy.

Deep into the match, they had four players alive and a real chance of closing it out.

They didn't.

Aurora Gaming won Match 16 with 25 points, and the Grand Finals is still going.

The Match S2G Should Have Won

This is what made Match 16 different from every other game today.

S2G weren't building toward Match Point. They were already there, sitting on 132 points, needing only a WWCD to become world champions.

For a while, it looked like they had the position to make it happen.

The broadcast showed S2G with a full four-player squad during the late stages, giving them a strong presence in the final fight. With a World Cup title potentially one WWCD away, S2G had exactly the opportunity they had been waiting for.

Aurora Gaming had other plans.

Aurora Take the Match and Reach Match Point

Aurora finished Match 16 with 25 points, collecting 10 placement points and 15 elimination points.

The WWCD took Aurora from 115 to 140 points, instantly pushing them past the 122-point Match Point threshold.

That single result did two things at once.

It kept S2G from ending the tournament and launched Aurora directly into Match Point territory.

S2G had to settle for 7 points from the match.

Four Teams Are Now Match Point Eligible

The championship race has become even more intense.

After Match 16:

  • Nongshim RedForce โ€” 140 points โ€” Match Point Eligible
  • Aurora Gaming โ€” 140 points โ€” Match Point Eligible
  • S2G Esports โ€” 139 points โ€” Match Point Eligible
  • eArena โ€” 123 points โ€” Match Point Eligible

All four teams now need just one WWCD to become PMWC 2026 champions.

The top three are separated by just one point between S2G and the two leaders, while eArena remain within striking distance despite sitting 17 points behind the leaders.

What S2G's Missed Chance Actually Costs Them

Technically, nothing.

S2G are still Match Point Eligible at 139 points. Their eligibility doesn't disappear, and they don't need to reach another threshold.

But there is a difference between knowing you can still win and knowing you had a golden opportunity to end it.

S2G had four players alive deep into a match they only needed to win. Aurora eventually survived the fight and converted the game into a WWCD.

That's the kind of moment that won't necessarily show up in the final points table, but it could become one of the defining moments of S2G's Grand Finals.

They now have to reset and find another opportunity.

GodLike and Orangutan

GodLike Esports picked up three points, moving to 77 points.

Orangutan added four points and moved to 70.

Neither team is involved in the Match Point battle, but both still have the opportunity to improve their final positions in the remaining matches.

Match 17 Is Now a Four-Team Title Race

The situation heading into Match 17 is brutally simple.

If Nongshim RedForce win, they are champions.

If Aurora Gaming win, they are champions.

If S2G Esports win, they are champions.

If eArena win, they are champions.

If another team takes the WWCD, the Grand Finals continues.

And there are now only two scheduled matches remaining.

S2G know better than anyone how quickly the championship window can open and close.

They had the opportunity in Match 16.

Aurora took it away.

Now S2G have to wait for the next one.
