Team Spirit Crowned EWC 2026 CS2 Champions After 3-1 Win Over FUT
FUT were a single round from going 2-1 up on Ancient. Spirit forced overtime, took it, and then closed the Esports World Cup's final day with a 13-5 Nuke.
Team Spirit are the Esports World Cup 2026 champions in Counter-Strike 2, defeating FUT Esports 3-1 in the Grand Final at Accor Arena in Paris. The victory brought the seven-week EWC 2026 festival, which began on July 6, to a close.
The scoreline is tidy. The series was not. Spirit went a map down before winning two consecutive overtime maps, with Ancient slipping away from FUT despite reaching 12 rounds first.
FUT's Opener, and 25 Kills From xfl0ud
FUT took the first map 13-10 on Cache, with Yasin "xfl0ud" Koç leading the scoreboard with 25 kills. FUT held their nerve through Spirit's late comeback attempt to take the opening lead in the series.
One Round From 2-1
Anubis went the distance, with Spirit eventually winning 16-13 in overtime. Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov and Miroslav "zont1x" Plakhotia produced important plays as Spirit levelled the series.
Then came Ancient, where the final nearly swung back in FUT's favor.
FUT reached 12 rounds first, putting themselves one round away from taking a 2-1 series lead. Spirit refused to give them the map, forcing overtime and eventually winning 16-14.
That proved to be the turning point of the Grand Final. Spirit had survived two extremely close maps and now needed only one more victory to lift the trophy.
Then Nuke Stopped Being a Contest
Whatever FUT had left after those two overtime battles disappeared on the decider.
Spirit went 10-2 up on the T side of Nuke, completely disrupting FUT's aggressive approach. The lead gave Spirit a comfortable path to the championship, and they closed the map 13-5 to secure the 3-1 series victory.
What the Title Pays
Spirit take home $600,000 from the CS2 event's $2 million prize pool, while FUT receive $340,000 as runners-up. The CS2 tournament featured 32 teams and ran from August 12 to 23.
The CS2 championship also contributes to the wider EWC Club Championship. The 2026 event features a $75 million total prize pool across 25 tournaments and 24 games, with Club Championship points awarded throughout the festival.
FUT Leave With More Than the Cheque
FUT arrived as the less established name in the matchup but pushed Spirit through three highly competitive maps before running out of momentum on Nuke. Their run to the Grand Final included wins over established teams and showed that their aggressive style can compete at the highest level.
Spirit's advantage was their ability to win the rounds that mattered most. Two overtime victories followed by a dominant Nuke was enough to turn a difficult opening into an EWC championship.
Team Spirit close the Esports World Cup with the CS2 trophy, $600,000 in prize money, and one of the most convincing decider-map performances of the tournament.
