Nebula Esports did not need a full day to make a statement. Six matches were enough for them to build a massive lead at the top of the BGMS Season 5 Grand Finals standings.

After Day 1, Nebula sit comfortably in first place with 107 points, 48 points ahead of iQOO Reckoning Esports in second. With two chicken dinners, 56 finishes, 36 position points and 15 bonus points, Nebula have given themselves a huge advantage heading into Day 2.

But while Nebula dominated the standings, the day also delivered one of the most entertaining storylines between iQOO Soul and OG.

The Erangel Opener Set The Tone

The first match of the Grand Finals immediately delivered a major rivalry moment.

iQOO Soul and OG found themselves involved in a heated fight, with Soul Legit getting the better of OG Akop and finishing him with a dagger.

It was an early statement from Soul in the rivalry, but the story was far from over.

As the day progressed, Nebula Esports began separating themselves from the rest of the lobby. Their consistency across the six matches, combined with two chicken dinners, allowed them to build a lead that nobody else could match.

By the end of Day 1, Nebula had accumulated 107 points, while second-placed iQOO Reckoning Esports had just 59.

Nebula Have Built A Huge Lead

The biggest story from the standings is the gap at the top.

Nebula's 107 points put them 48 points ahead of iQOO Reckoning Esports. Elite Nova Esports are just one point behind Reckoning in third with 58, while iQOO Orangutan sit fourth on 53.

Nebula's advantage has come from both sides of the scoring system. Their 56 finishes are the highest total in the lobby, while their 36 position points and 15 bonus points have given them another layer of consistency.

That combination is what makes their lead so difficult to challenge.

For the teams behind them, Day 2 is no longer about simply matching Nebula in individual matches. They need a major swing in points while also hoping Nebula finally have a quiet run.

Jonny Compound Turned The Final Match Into Revenge

If the opening match gave Soul the first statement against OG, the final match of Day 1 delivered the response.

The Jonny compound once again became the centre of a heated Soul vs OG fight, Atanki finishes Soul's Goblin with a Zinda dagger.

This time, OG came out on top.

OG Atanki found finish on Goblin , helping OG take control of the compound and turn the earlier result on its head.

It was a perfect rivalry storyline across the day. Soul had started the finals by taking down OG Akop with a dagger finish. By the final match, OG had its revenge, with Attanki finding the finishes on Soul Goblin.

The standings may not fully reflect the importance of those moments, but for the players and fans watching the rivalry unfold, the Jonny compound fight was one of Day 1's defining sequences.

The Race Behind Nebula Is Extremely Tight

While Nebula have created separation at the top, the battle for the positions behind them is wide open.

Just seven points separate second from sixth.

iQOO Reckoning Esports lead that group with 59 points, followed by Elite Nova Esports on 58. iQOO Orangutan have 53, while iQOO Revenant Xspark and GOSOLO Rapid Chaos Esports are tied on 52.

That means one strong match can completely change the order among the teams chasing the podium.

The fight is even tighter further down the table, with 7Gods Esports and Team Apex Gaming both on 46 points, while iQOO Team Tamilas and Genesis Esports are tied on 45.

Soul Have Work To Do

iQOO Soul end Day 1 in 14th place with 34 points.

Despite the strong individual moments against OG, Soul could not translate them into a strong overall position. They finished the day with 20 finishes, five position points and nine bonus points, but without a chicken dinner.

With the Grand Finals still having another day of matches, Soul have an opportunity to climb the standings, but the gap to the top half is already significant.

Day 2 Could Change Everything

Nebula have put themselves in the best possible position after Day 1, but the tournament is not over.

The second through sixth positions are separated by only seven points, meaning the podium race remains completely open. Meanwhile, teams lower down the table will need aggressive performances to make a serious climb.

And after the Soul vs OG exchanges on Day 1, the rivalry has another chapter waiting to be written.

Action continues on 5th September at 3:30 PM.

Nebula Esports have started the Grand Finals with a statement. Now the rest of the lobby has one day to answer it.
