Ocean Odyssey Returns to BGMI on September 30
KRAFTON India is not bringing back Ocean Odyssey because it has a new season to fill. It is bringing it back because players never stopped asking for it.
The underwater theme mode returns to Erangel on September 30, 2026, two weeks after BGMI's 4.6 update goes live on September 16, and stays playable through November 16. That puts it alongside Midnight Hunters, the vampire-hunter mode leading 4.6, giving Erangel two theme modes at once.
A Sequel to a Pattern, Not Just a Mode
This is not the first time KRAFTON India has reopened something it had already closed. Erangel: Ancient Secrets got the same treatment earlier this year, and Ocean Odyssey follows the same logic: instead of building a new theme from nothing, the studio is going back to an experience the community kept asking for after it was gone.
That is a different kind of bet than a fresh POI. It relies on player memory doing work a trailer cannot.
What's Actually Down There
Ocean Odyssey drops players into the Ocean Palace, a submerged ancient kingdom hidden beneath Erangel's waters and protected by a Sea Suppressor barrier. The barrier creates an air pocket that lets players explore underwater until it breaks, flooding the palace and turning exploration into an escape.
- The Trident: A legendary weapon at the palace's center, capable of creating water sprouts that fling opponents across the battlefield.
- The Kraken: Guards the Trident, making the weapon difficult to reach.
- The Forsaken Ruins: A treasure-filled area beyond the palace walls, offering loot not found in most other BGMI modes.
For players who joined BGMI after the mode was retired, this will be a first encounter with the Ocean Palace. For everyone else, it is a return to one of BGMI's boldest departures from land-based battle royale.
Why the Timing Matters
Ocean Odyssey arrives two weeks after the BGMI 4.6 update itself, giving Midnight Hunters its initial launch window before the underwater mode returns to Erangel.
It also means players will have two different theme experiences to explore across the same map, with Midnight Hunters and Ocean Odyssey running at the same time.
