PUBG Mobile Light Announced: 1GB Download, Cross-Play With the Main App
PUBG Mobile just got a second app. Producer Rick confirmed PUBG Mobile Light, a lighter client built for players dealing with limited storage or weaker devices. Unlike most "lite" spinoffs, however, this one isn't cut off from the main game.
The Numbers That Matter
The initial download is around 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS, with no mandatory extra packages required before your first match.
Everything beyond that is modular. Players can choose which additional content they want to download based on how they play, rather than having every map, mode and asset installed upfront.
Same Game, Smaller App
Rick made it clear that Light isn't intended to be a scaled-down gameplay experience.
Core combat, supplies and the classic Erangel map are designed to match the standard PUBG Mobile app. The "Light" name is primarily about reducing the initial download and device storage requirements rather than removing core gameplay features.
Your Account Carries Over
Players can log in using their existing PUBG Mobile account, with owned items, outfits and cosmetics carrying over to the new app.
There is no need to create a separate progression path or start your collection from scratch.
Cross-Play With the Main App
One of PUBG Mobile Light's biggest features is its connection to the standard app.
Light players can team up and play with friends using the regular PUBG Mobile app. There is no separate social ecosystem splitting players between the two versions.
The two apps will also receive updates alongside each other, meaning Light players won't have to wait for a delayed content schedule.
When Can You Get PUBG Mobile Light?
Pre-registration opens August 25 through mobile app stores, with the full launch planned for later this year.
The combination of a smaller initial download, modular content, shared progression and cross-play makes PUBG Mobile Light more than a traditional stripped-down "Lite" version.
PUBG Mobile Light vs BGMI Lite
For Indian players, there is an important distinction.
PUBG Mobile Light and BGMI Lite are two separate apps. KRAFTON India has also confirmed that BGMI Lite pre-registration will begin on August 25, with its Android app targeting an initial download of around 1GB.
Both products are built around a similar idea, making the battle royale experience more accessible on devices with limited storage and performance, but they belong to separate versions of the game.
For PUBG Mobile players globally, Light is set to provide a smaller way to access the same core experience without sacrificing account progression or the ability to play with friends on the main app.
